Teacher Arrested for Alleged Inappropriate Relationship with Former Students

A sixth-grade teacher at Lincoln Acres Elementary School located at 2200 S Lanoitan Ave, National City, CA 91950, has been arrested on allegations involving an inappropriate relationship with a former student. 34-year-old Jacqueline Ma was arrested on March 7, 2023, on the school campus, according to Fox 5 San Diego

Disturbing Allegations of Teacher Sexual Misconduct

Ma, who taught fifth and sixth grades at Lincoln Acres, was honored as San Diego County “Teacher of the Year” earlier that year. However, her recent arrest has raised serious concerns within the community.

CA Elementary Teacher Facing 21 Felony Counts

The teacher has been in custody since her initial arrest in March, where she faced accusations of sexual relationships with two students, aged 11 and 12. Prosecutors claim that one of these relationships lasted several months. Ma has pleaded not guilty to 21 felony counts, including lewd acts on a child and possession of child sexual abuse material. Recent amendments to the charges could lead to a longer sentence if she is convicted.

Trial Date Set for Teacher Accused of Child Sexual Abuse

A South Bay judge determined that sufficient evidence exists for the case to proceed to trial. The preliminary hearing, which took place in December, revealed detailed messages allegedly sent by Ma to the victims, discussing sexual relations. The trial is set to begin on April 14, 2025, marking over two years since her initial arrest.

The National School District has pledged its cooperation with law enforcement while ensuring the safety and educational needs of its students remain a priority.

Legal Guidance for Parents of Victims of Teacher Sexual Abuse

In the aftermath of alarming allegations against a teacher at Lincoln Acres Elementary, many parents are grappling with concerns about their children's safety and well-being. To provide clarity and support, we spoke with attorney Jason Amala, with experience handling cases of child sexual abuse. He shares valuable information on the rights available to parents and the steps they can take to hold negligent parties accountable, ensuring that victims of teacher sexual abuse receive the justice and compensation they deserve.

Editor Darla Medina: Thank you for joining us, Jason. With the recent arrest of the Lincoln Acres Elementary teacher, many parents are understandably concerned. What legal rights do parents have if they suspect their child has been abused by a teacher?

Attorney Jason Amala: Parents have several important rights in these situations. Initially, they can report any suspected abuse to law enforcement and the school district. It’s crucial for them to document any evidence or changes in their child's behavior, which can be vital in any investigation.

Medina: That makes sense. What steps can parents take to hold negligent parties accountable?

Amala: Parents can explore civil action against the school district or the teacher. If negligence is proven—meaning the school failed to protect students or did not take appropriate action when allegations arose—they may be liable for damages. This can include emotional distress and any related costs for therapy or counseling.

Medina: Are there specific legal standards that must be met for a successful claim?

Amala: Yes, the burden of proof lies with the parents. They must demonstrate that the school had a duty to protect students, breached that duty, and that the breach directly resulted in harm to the child. This often involves gathering evidence, such as communications from the school or witness testimonies.

Medina: How can parents find a lawyer who specializes in these cases?

Amala: It's important for parents to seek attorneys with experience in sexual abuse cases, particularly those involving minors. They should look for someone who has a strong track record in similar lawsuits and who is sensitive to the needs of victims and their families.

Medina: What advice would you give to parents who are feeling overwhelmed by this situation?

Amala: I would advise them to take it one step at a time. Focus on ensuring their child feels safe and supported. Reach out to professionals who can provide legal guidance and counseling. It’s crucial to prioritize the emotional well-being of their child throughout this process.

Medina: Thank you, Jason, for your valuable insights on this difficult topic. We appreciate your guidance for parents navigating this challenging situation.
