"Ensuring that all students are safe from preventable dangers, including sexual misconduct at the hands of a coach or teacher, is the responsibility of schools and the school district. We hear too often of reports where sexual predators obtain jobs as high school teachers and coaches. Sadly, these positions allow predators easy access to vulnerable children. They can use their positions of trust and power to groom students on school grounds. The school and district are responsible for ensuring the coaches and staff have undergone background checks. Any reports of wrongdoing should be forwarded to the authorities. The school can be held liable for failing to provide enough safety measures."

"The school's safety procedures should be investigated when a high school coach or teacher is arrested for sexual misconduct. It's important to know if the abuse could have been stopped. The victim and their family may have grounds to file a lawsuit if the school was negligent. They can learn more by consulting with a school sex abuse lawyer."
