Authorities have arrested a 31-year-old math teacher on suspicion of having a sexually intimate relationship with a minor student at Escondido High School, located at 1535 N Broadway, Escondido, CA 92026. The Escondido Police Department (EPD) announced the arrest on Monday, August 12, 2024 according to NBC San Diego.
Last month, the EPD received a report of sexual misconduct and Ky Iri Tisdale of Escondido was taken into custody on Friday after detectives with the Escondido Police Family Protection Unit conducted an investigation. Tisdale was arrested while he and other teachers were setting up their classrooms at the school, according to Lt. Ryan Hicks with the EPD.
The department wanted to arrest Tisdale before Tuesday, which is the first day of classes in the Escondido Union High School District. Detectives also executed a search warrant at Tisdale's residence in Escondido to search for additional evidence, seizing his phone and computer.
Detectives believe there is at least one additional victim in this case, the EPD statement said. Both the alleged victims have graduated since the alleged incidents, the district confirmed.
Tisdale was booked at the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Vista Detention Facility for suspicion of oral copulation with a minor and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, both felony counts. He is currently being held on $250,000 bail and is due in court in North County on Aug. 13.
The Escondido Union High School District has placed Tisdale on administrative leave pending the outcome of the legal process. Superintendent Jon Peterson called the news "tremendously distressing" and said the district took immediate action to address the matter.
