Filing a Lawsuit For a Fatal Store Shooting

Attorney contributor Marc Lenahan helps victims and their families involved in shootings recover the financial compensation they deserve. Marc recently sat down with Legal Herald to cover when a victim's family can sue a commercial property for a fatal shooting

"Commercial property owners by law must provide adequate safety on their property. Security measures such as well-lit parking lots and security cameras help to minimize the risk of preventable criminal acts, such as shootings. When a commercial property owner fails to do this, customers or staff have an increased chance of becoming victims of violence. Negligent property owners could be accountable for a victim's injuries or death if they failed to offer such protection."

"Victims, with the guidance of an experienced shooting victim attorney, will need to prove the crime was reasonably foreseeable. If the property had a prior history of crime but the owner refused to improve its security measures, crimes committed could be considered foreseeable. The victim's family lawyer will help them get the compensation they deserve after a shooting death."
