Former VA Private School Teacher Charged with Soliciting Child Pornography

13 News Now reported that a former teacher, 31-year-old Daniel Fleming, has been charged with child sex crimes following a rigorous investigation by the Chesapeake Police Department. The authorities were alerted in January after receiving information alleging that Fleming was engaged in illegal activities involving minors. The former teacher recently taught at Greenbrier Christian Academy, located at 311 Kempsville Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23320, before taking a position at StoneBridge School, located at 1629 Jolliff Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23321.

After a thorough investigation, Fleming now faces serious charges, including felony solicitation of child pornography and felony use of communication systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children. According to the Chesapeake Police Department, the accused had previously been employed as a math teacher at a private school in Chesapeake and was also involved in a local church's youth ministry.

Startling details emerged from court documents, shedding light on the disturbing nature of the alleged crimes. The complaint states that on January 1, 2024, the former math teacher used Snapchat to solicit nude photos from a 15-year-old boy. Despite the boy declining, Fleming persisted, asking for an "outline of his boxers/underwear." Shockingly, Fleming reportedly sent an explicit photo in response, where clothing appeared to be around the ankle of the leg in the frame.

Greenbrier Christian Academy confirmed that Fleming had been a teacher at their institution but resigned in June. He subsequently joined StoneBridge School in Chesapeake. Records indicate that at the time of his arrest, Fleming had recently begun working at the Cavalier Hotel.

Chesapeake police are urging anyone with information related to Fleming's alleged crimes to come forward. They can contact the Chesapeake Police Investigations Unit at (757) 382-6251 or submit a tip anonymously on p3tips.com.

The charges against Daniel Fleming highlight the critical need for vigilance in safeguarding our children and promoting awareness about the dangers of online predators. As the case unfolds, the community awaits justice for the victims and expects stringent measures to prevent such heinous acts from occurring in the future.

Empowering Victims of Child Sexual Abuse

In response to the arrest of the former private school teacher, we sat down with experienced sexual assault attorney Kevin Biniazan, to discuss the legal rights available to victims of sexual abuse by a teacher. This insightful conversation highlights the steps survivors can take to seek justice and hold negligent schools accountable for their negligence.

Editor Darla Medina (DM): Thank you for joining us today, Mr. Biniazan. As an experienced sexual assault attorney, could you elaborate on the legal rights available to individuals who have been sexually abused by private school teachers?

Attorney Kevin Biniazan (KB): Certainly, Darla. Victims of sexual abuse by private school teachers have legal avenues to seek justice for the harm they have endured. One crucial aspect is pursuing a civil lawsuit against not only the perpetrator but possibly the school as well.

DM: How can victims hold schools accountable for their actions or inactions?

KB: Holding schools accountable requires establishing that they were negligent in their duty to protect students from harm. This can include demonstrating that the school failed to properly screen teachers during the hiring process, ignored warning signs, or negligently supervised their staff. Schools have a legal responsibility to provide a safe environment for students, and when they fall short, they can be held liable for the resulting harm.

DM: Are there any unique challenges when pursuing legal action against private schools?

KB: Private schools may present some unique challenges compared to public schools. They often have different legal structures, and their immunity from certain claims may vary. Additionally, private schools may have the resources to mount a strong defense. However, with a skilled attorney and a thorough investigation, victims can still seek justice and hold these institutions accountable.

DM: Mr. Biniazan, the allegations in this case involve the former teacher soliciting sexual pictures from students. Can you explain the legal implications of such actions and the potential consequences for the perpetrator?

KB: Soliciting sexual pictures from students is a serious offense with severe legal implications. In cases like these, the perpetrator can face criminal charges, such as solicitation of child pornography or related offenses. Additionally, civil lawsuits can be pursued, seeking compensation for the victims' emotional distress, medical expenses, and other damages. It is crucial to hold individuals accountable for their actions and ensure the safety and well-being of our children.

DM: What advice would you give to individuals who have suffered sexual abuse by a private school teacher?

KB: First and foremost, I encourage survivors to prioritize their well-being and seek appropriate support from professionals trained in trauma recovery. From a legal standpoint, it is essential to consult with an experienced attorney who specializes in sexual abuse cases. They can guide survivors through the legal process, protect their rights, and pursue the compensation they deserve.

DM: Thank you, Mr. Biniazan, for sharing on this important matter.

KB: It's been my pleasure, Darla. Raising awareness about the legal rights of survivors is crucial, and I hope this information can help empower those who have suffered from sexual abuse to take action and seek justice.
