A former cheerleading coach and substitute teacher in Gallia County, Ohio has pleaded guilty to four felony charges related to sexual misconduct with several of her students at River Valley High School, located at 4280 Marion-Mt Gilead Rd, Caledonia, OH 43314.
The Gallia County Sheriff's Office revealed that Michal Paige Huck, who is in her mid-40s, admitted to two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of sexual battery. The victims, all former students involved with the wrestling team coached by Huck's ex-husband Matthew Huck, ranged in age from 13 to 17 and the incidents occurred between 2003 and 2016.
According to the release, the judge has been recommended to sentence Huck to 10 years in prison, with four 30-month terms assigned consecutively for each of the victims.
"These boys – who are now young men – courageously came forward and told us what happened, and now there will be no need for them to recount the lurid details in a trial," stated Special Prosecutor Kelley. “Adults having sex with children is evil, sick and a serious crime,” stated special prosecutor Mark Weaver.
The case has sent shockwaves through the community, underscoring the profound breach of trust by the married duo and the lasting impact on the victims. As the legal process continues, the focus remains on providing support and justice for those affected by this deeply troubling situation.

In the wake of a disturbing case in Gallia County, Ohio, where a former cheerleading coach is charged with sexually abusing students, we sat down with experienced Ohio sexual abuse lawyer John Bey to discuss the legal rights available for victims and how to ensure all negligent parties are held responsible.
Darla Medina, Editor: Thank you for joining us today. In light of the case involving the sexual abuse of several students, what can victims of school sexual abuse do to seek justice and hold negligent schools accountable?
John Bey, Esq.: This is a deeply disturbing case that highlights the severe breach of trust when an educator abuses their position of power. The victims, who were as young as 13 at the time, have been through an unimaginable trauma.
Under Ohio law, victims of sexual abuse by a school employee have the right to seek compensation for the harm they've suffered. This can include damages for past and future medical expenses, counseling, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
Additionally, the school district itself may be held liable if it was aware of the abuse or failed to properly investigate and address the allegations. Schools have a duty to protect their students and can be negligent if they don't take appropriate action.
DM: What steps can victims take to pursue justice and accountability in a case like this?
JB: The first step is to report the abuse to law enforcement and cooperate fully with any criminal investigation. Victims should also consult with an experienced sexual abuse attorney who can advise them of their rights and guide them through the civil litigation process.
A skilled lawyer will thoroughly investigate the case, gather evidence, and hold all responsible parties accountable - whether that's the perpetrator, the school district, or anyone else who turned a blind eye to the abuse. The goal is to not only secure compensation for the victims, but to ensure this never happens again.
DM: Thank you for providing this valuable insight into the legal options available for the victims in this disturbing case. It's crucial that we continue to shine a light on these issues and support those who have had their trust and safety violated.
