Alton Middle School teacher William C. Ingersoll was arrested in May and charged with one count of criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault for an alleged sexual relationship with a student between 1998 and 2000.
At least two other students have come forward since the public announcement of those charges. Police now believe there could be additional victims and have asked other potential victims to contact their detectives at (618) 463-3505 extension 634.
In the first case, a former student spoke with another former teacher about the alleged abuse involving Ingersoll. That teacher then contacted the school district, which then contacted the police.
No details concerning the other victims are publicly available as of June 12, 2019.

For example, a school might be considered negligent for ignoring previous complaints of sexual misconduct involving the perpetrator. In cases of negligence, school sex abuse victims and their families may have the right to file a lawsuit.
