A Victorville youth softball coach, 50-year-old Armando Felix, has been taken into custody following accusations of lewd acts involving a minor, according to Fox 11. Officials from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department disclosed that the investigation began on June 30, 2025, after receiving detailed allegations regarding Felix’s conduct.
According to authorities, the incidents date back to 2012 and 2013, when Felix was coaching the victim’s softball team. The alleged abuse started when the victim was between 13 and 14 years old. Investigators assert that Felix sexually assaulted the underage female on multiple occasions during that period.
After an extensive investigation, law enforcement submitted their findings to the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office. On August 15, felony child sexual abuse charges were formally filed against Felix. He was arrested the same day at the Victorville Courthouse, where he was attending court proceedings for a separate child sexual assault case.
Felix is currently being held without bail at the High Desert Detention Center. Officials confirmed that Felix had served as a youth softball coach for several years, raising concerns that there may be additional victims.
Investigators have urged anyone with information to reach out to Detective Wendy Winegar at 919-890-4904. For those preferring anonymity, tips can be submitted online.
When someone in a position of trust, like a coach, is accused of sexual abuse, the impact on victims can be devastating. Beyond the emotional toll, many survivors are left wondering what legal steps they can take to hold their abuser accountable. Jason Amala, a seasoned California attorney specializing in sexual abuse cases, shares valuable information about the rights of victims and the legal actions available to them. This conversation provides clarity on how survivors of coach sexual abuse can seek accountability and support during such difficult times.
Editor Darla Medina: What legal paths are available to individuals who may have been victims of sexual abuse by someone in a position of authority, like a coach?
Attorney Jason Amala: Victims in these situations generally have two main options: criminal charges brought by law enforcement and civil lawsuits pursued independently. Criminal cases focus on holding the abuser accountable under the law, which can lead to penalties like prison time. Civil lawsuits, on the other hand, allow victims to seek compensation for the harm they’ve endured—whether that's emotional trauma, medical expenses, or other damages.
Medina: If additional victims of Armando Felix come forward, what steps should they take to protect their rights?
Amala: The first step is to document everything they remember about the abuse, even if the details feel fragmented. Then, they should contact law enforcement or a trusted legal representative. California has extended statutes of limitations for civil cases involving sexual abuse, meaning survivors from years ago may still have legal recourse. It’s also important to work with an attorney experienced in these cases to navigate the process and provide the support they need.
Medina: Do organizations like youth sports leagues share any responsibility in these cases?
Amala: Potentially, yes. If an organization failed to conduct proper background checks, ignored warning signs, or didn’t act when allegations surfaced, they could be held liable. That’s why it’s crucial to investigate whether there were any systemic failures that allowed the abuse to occur or continue.
