The incident occurred the morning of Thursday, December 12th, around 10AM.
The man, an employee of a construction contractor, was reported to have been completing some roofing tasks on the recently-unveiled Patient Tower when he fell off the building for reasons still unknown. The man was admitted to the Emergency department of the same hospital where he is still being treated and is believed to be in critical condition. The victim’s identity, nor the specific extent of his injuries, have been confirmed by officials.
The Patient Tower of the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital was opened in October of this year. It’s purpose was to expand the facilities while also connecting the main wing of the hospital with the slightly younger Pavilion component. While the new Patient Tower is two stories tall in some places, the worker was on a one-story section when he fell.
A hospital spokesperson indicated that an investigation was being conducted by authorities.
We had to pleasure of speaking with attorney contributor, Jason Amala, an experienced construction accident attorney who has represented victims who have suffered injuries on construction sites. He has offered to share some insight on construction accident cases:
“The importance of having a reliable workers’ compensation system is vital for employees in the United States. Unfortunately, those injured on the job have had significant trouble filing for workers’ compensation because the system is known for being quite complex and difficult to navigate. Having an experienced construction accident attorney can help fight for the rights of injured workers and help provide them with the compensation they deserve,” stated Mr. Amala.
