Early Morning Semi Crash on I-95 in St. Johns County Leaves Two Drivers Injured

News 4 Jax reported a serious crash between a semi-truck and a pick-up truck on Interstate 95 near International Golf Parkway in St. Augustine, FL that left two drivers injured and caused multiple lanes to be blocked for hours.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the collision occurred around 5 a.m. as both vehicles were headed north on I-95 before mile marker 324. The semi truck unexpectedly crashed into the back of the pick-up truck, resulting in a catastrophic impact that forced both vehicles off the road and onto the grass shoulder.

In the aftermath of the collision, the pick-up truck then struck a tree and rotated, exacerbating the damage and complicating the rescue efforts. Emergency crews rushed to the scene to assist those involved and clear the wreckage, causing significant traffic delays as the right lane on I-95 North remained blocked for several hours.

The FHP reported that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, which likely contributed to preventing more severe injuries. Despite the seriousness of the accident, there is some relief in knowing that their injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.

Following the crash, both drivers were promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention. As of the latest update, they are in serious condition and continue to receive medical care. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident to determine the factors that led to this unfortunate collision.

Darla Medina: With the recent serious truck accident, our readers are concerned about what actions truck accident victims can take. Can you explain what options they have in pursuing a civil case against liable parties?

Mike Haggard, Esq.: Absolutely. When a truck accident occurs, victims often have the right to seek compensation through a civil lawsuit against those responsible for the crash. In this case, the drivers involved may have legal grounds to pursue a claim against the liable parties, which could include the trucking company, the driver at fault, or even potential third parties if they contributed to the accident in any way.

Darla Medina: What factors are typically considered in determining liability in truck accidents?

Mike Haggard, Esq.: Truck accidents can be complex, and determining liability involves a thorough investigation. Our legal team examines various factors such as driver negligence, adherence to federal and state regulations, potential vehicle defects, driver fatigue, or improper maintenance. Gathering evidence, witness testimonies, and sometimes even data from electronic logging devices play crucial roles in building a strong case.

Darla Medina: What type of compensation can truck accident victims pursue in a civil case?

Mike Haggard, Esq.: Truck accident victims may be entitled to various types of compensation to help them recover from their injuries and losses. This could include medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and in severe cases, even wrongful death damages for the families of victims who have lost their lives in such accidents.

Darla Medina: How can truck accident victims protect their rights and improve their chances of a successful claim?

Mike Haggard, Esq.: First and foremost, seeking immediate medical attention is crucial for their health and well-being. After that, it's essential to consult with an experienced truck accident attorney who can guide them through the legal process and protect their rights. They should avoid giving any statements or signing documents without legal counsel present. Time is of the essence in these cases, as evidence can disappear, so it's best to reach out to an attorney as soon as possible.
