The crash between the two trucks took occurred at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Wilhelm Road in the early afternoon of Monday, December 2nd.
The 2006 International truck being driven by Lambert, which itself was a La Porte County Highway Dept vehicle, was stopped at the intersection and waiting to turn left. At that point, the 1995 Kenworth driven by Martinez came over the hill, crossed the double yellow lines and struck Lambert’s truck head on.
Martinez’s cabin and semi-tractor trailer both flipped and came to rest in the middle of the road. Lambert’s vehicle came to rest on Wilhelm Rd. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, with Lambert reportedly suffering injuries to his arm. It is not clear if Martinez suffered any injuries.
U.S. 20 remained closed for a couple of hours until all debris was finally cleaned up, around 3PM in the afternoon.
An experienced truck wreck lawyer Jeff Gibson has dedicated his career to fighting tirelessly for victims of accidents. He offered this insight for people who may have suffered injuries in a similar manner:
“Most people on the road understand that trucks are heavy-duty vehicles which themselves are very powerful and often carry heavy loads. As you can imagine, these added loads only make them more dangerous in the unfortunate instances in which they crash as, when accidents do happen, they can cause even more damage than normal.
When persons are involved in these truck accidents, the injuries they can sustain may be extremely severe. For instance, one of the most common injuries that truck crash victims suffer are spine fractures. Other injuries also encountered in these crashes include brain damage, nerve damage, head trauma, and even amputation.
These injuries often require very expensive and specialized medical care. Regrettably, insurance policies, while they may pay out some benefits, they are unlikely to offer enough of a compensation to cover all the treatment required. This is because every policy has a set limit and once this limit is reached, no more financial support is offered to victims.
In these instances, victims may only have the option of a truck accident lawsuit left to help them receive their deserved compensation. Via this legal process, a victim and their loved ones are able to pursue an award that covers all medical bills as well as lost wages, among other damages.
Victims of truck crashes should consult their incident with an experienced truck accident lawyer who will give their case the time and effort it deserves, and who fights for the rights of victims to achieve the complete compensation that they need to get back on their feet.”
