Filing Lawsuits For Bar Shooting Victims

Attorney contributor Brian Kent is an experienced gun violence attorney representing victims in Pennsylvania. During a recent interview, Brian went over some of the legal options available for bar shootings victims and their families.

"Ensuring the safety of guests and staff at bars and pubs is a legal responsibility for bar owners. Bars are required to provide adequate security in order to comply with premise liability laws. Adequate parking lot lighting, working surveillance cameras around and inside the bar property, and hired security bouncers are just a few examples of security measures that reduce the risk of danger. If the bar owner fails to provide ample security, they could be deemed negligent and held liable."

"If a shooting is deemed reasonably foreseeable, victims may be able to file a lawsuit against a negligent bar owner. The crime could be seen as predictable if the bar owner was aware of increased criminal activity yet neglected to make improvements. Updating security may involve hiring extra security personnel or installing metal detectors. A gun violence attorney can help the surviving family members better understand their legal options."
