Fraudulent CA Massage Therapist Arrested For Sexually Assaulting Multiple Women

Authorities in San Diego have revealed that Christopher Scott Preston, 55, operated a massage therapy business for six years without a legitimate license, according to NBC San Diego. Police reported on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, that Preston fabricated a license number featured on his Groupon advertisement to attract clients to his massage parlor, 360 Wellness and Consulting located at 7955 Dunbrook Rd d, San Diego, CA 92126.

Allegations of Sexual Assault Surface Against Masseuse

The investigation began when a woman reported being sexually assaulted during a lymphatic massage session in August 2023. Although hesitant at first, she eventually provided details to detectives. Since then, two more women have come forward, claiming similar experiences involving groping and sexual assault with a foreign object.

Groupon Advertisement Under Scrutiny

A significant element of the case is a Groupon promotion offering 50% off services, which included the fake license number. San Diego Police Sex Crimes Unit Lt. Dan Sayasan emphasized the importance of verifying the legitimacy of businesses before engaging their services. “Be very wary of ads,” he cautioned.

In response to the unfolding situation, Groupon spokesperson Mike Tepeli stated that the company prioritizes customer safety. He confirmed that the promotion has been removed, all outstanding vouchers will be refunded, and they are cooperating with law enforcement.

Accused Massage Therapist Worked as Football Coach at High School

CBS 8 confirmed that Christopher Scott Preston was also employed as a football coach at University City High School, located at 6949 Genesee Ave, San Diego, CA 92122. He was arrested near the campus on Wednesday and now faces five felony charges related to the alleged sexual assaults. The principal of University City High School promptly notified parents of Preston's arrest, stating, "The employee has been placed on unpaid leave and is no longer associated with our school."

Encouraging Additional Victims to Come Forward

As the investigation continues, Lt. Sayasan believes there may be more victims who have yet to report their experiences. He urged anyone uncertain about their encounters to contact detectives. “Victims often feel embarrassed or confused about their experiences,” Sayasan noted.

Upcoming Court Proceedings for Massage Therapist Accused of Sexual Assault

Preston’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month. If convicted, he faces a potential sentence of up to 11 years in prison. Currently, he is released from custody under strict conditions, which include wearing a GPS monitor and maintaining distance from his former workplace and alleged victims.

What Can I Do If I Was Sexually Assaulted During a Massage?

In the wake of alarming allegations against unlicensed massage therapist Christopher Scott Preston, many victims of sexual abuse may feel uncertain about their options. To address these concerns, we sat down with California sex abuse lawyer Jason Amala. They discuss the legal rights available to clients who have been sexually assaulted during a massage, the importance of accountability for negligent parties, and the steps victims can take to reclaim their voices and seek appropriate recourse.

Editor Darla Medina: Can you explain what legal rights victims of sexual abuse by a massage therapist have?

Attorney Jason Amala: Absolutely, Darla. Victims have several rights, including the right to report the abuse to law enforcement and pursue civil action against the perpetrator. They can seek compensation for emotional distress, medical expenses, and any other damages incurred.

Medina: How can victims hold negligent parties accountable?

Amala: Victims can file a civil lawsuit not only against the individual therapist but also against the business if it failed to ensure a safe environment. This could involve proving that the establishment did not properly vet their employees or ignored prior complaints.

Medina: What advice do you have for those who might be hesitant to come forward?

Amala: It’s important for victims to know they are not alone and that support is available. Consulting with a legal professional can help them understand their options and feel empowered to take action.
