Man Left in Critical Condition Following Bar Shooting

KENS5 has reported a shooting occurred at Privat Bar located at 5138 UTSA Boulevard, San Antonio, TX 78249.

Officers were called to the shooting around 3:30 a.m. following a New Year's celebration. They arrived to find a victim in the backseat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound. He is said to be in critical condition.

The vehicle was hit, along with many others, while parked in the bar's rear parking lot. Police reported that allegedly the suspect drove into the parking lot with their lights off before opening fire on the parking lot. They believe there were two suspects in the older model red Nissan Altima.

Can Bar Shooting Victims File Lawsuits?

Attorney contributor Anjali Nigam is an experienced bar shooting attorney who represents victims and their families. Anjali has helped numerous victims recover the compensation they rightfully deserve. During a recent discussion, he went over the legal rights available to victims, including their right to sue for being shot in a bar parking lot.

"When a bar shooting occurs, and patrons or staff are injured, it is important that the crime is thoroughly investigated. In addition to identifying and arresting any suspects, the investigation should include the bar's security plan. This is to determine if the shooting could have been prevented."

"Bar owners have a heavy responsibility to provide safety for their patrons and staff. Unfortunately, violent crimes are often associated with these establishments due to alcohol consumption. The property owners should do everything possible to deter violent crimes, such as shootings and stabbings. They can hire trained security guards, install security cameras, and have sufficient lighting in the parking lots. These measures help to reduce preventable crimes. However, if the bar owner fails to implement adequate security and patrons are hurt, these victims may have grounds to sue based on negligent security."

"Furthermore, if the area or bar had seen an increase in violence or crime, they would be responsible for addressing this by increasing their security measures. Victims of bar shootings should consult with an experienced bar shooting attorney to learn about their legal rights to sue a negligent property owner. Many times financial compensation is awarded for damages caused by the injury."
