An employee of Sunshine Wellness Spa located at 151 W Spring Creek Pkwy #501b, Plano, TX 75023, has been arrested following allegations of attempted sexual assault. Gang Li, 49, is now at the center of an investigation launched by the Plano Police Department, according to Fox 4.
Detectives began looking into the spa after receiving reports of unwanted sexual contact from clients. During their investigation, they discovered that Li had not obtained a massage therapy license until May 19, 2025. Authorities are now working to determine whether his current license is valid and if he had been operating illegally prior to that date.
The investigation uncovered evidence that resulted in Li’s arrest on charges of attempted sexual assault. However, police have not confirmed whether he was actively offering services without a valid license.
Officials are calling on anyone who visited Sunshine Wellness Spa and received a massage from Li before May 19, or who experienced inappropriate or unsolicited conduct, to contact the Special Victims Unit tip line at (972) 941-2044.
The case has raised serious questions about oversight and accountability in the massage therapy industry as authorities continue their inquiries.
When incidents of sexual assault occur in professional settings, such as spas or massage parlors, victims may feel overwhelmed and unsure of what steps to take. Anjali Nigam, a Texas-based attorney experienced in sexual abuse cases, explains the legal pathways available to survivors, from filing criminal complaints to holding businesses accountable through civil claims. Her insights provide clarity on how victims of massage sexual assault can take action and seek accountability under Texas law.
Editor Darla Medina: What legal options do victims of sexual assault by a masseuse, such as those potentially involved in this case, have under Texas law?
Attorney Anjali Nigam: Victims in these situations have the right to file criminal complaints, which can result in charges against the perpetrator, such as sexual assault or attempted assault. Beyond the criminal process, they also have the option to pursue civil claims to seek compensation for damages like emotional trauma, medical costs, and lost wages.
Medina: What role does the massage business itself play in these cases?
Nigam: If the business failed to properly vet or supervise the employee, victims may have grounds for a negligence claim against the establishment. Employers are legally responsible for ensuring that their staff are properly licensed and trained, and that customers are protected within their premises.
Medina: For those who may have hesitated to come forward, what protections are in place for them?
Nigam: Texas offers strong protections for survivors, including the right to remain anonymous in certain legal proceedings. Additionally, victim advocacy groups and law enforcement often provide resources to help survivors navigate these complex situations.
