Can I Sue For Being Shot Outside a Tavern?

Our attorney contributor Guy D'Andrea is an experienced gun crimes lawyer who often represents victims of tavern shootings. Recently, Brian explained when a victim can sue for being shot outside a tavern

"Bar or tavern owners have a legal obligation to provide adequate safety for their patrons and staff. Tavern owners can take various security precautions to safeguard their property. Security cameras, ample lighting in and around the tavern, and trained security bouncers are just a few examples. An owner may be held accountable for crimes committed on their property if they fail to maintain basic safety measures."

"When tavern shootings occur, they are frequently the result of a third party's negligence, such as a property owner. If crime rates in the neighborhood were on the rise but the owners did not increase their safety measures, this would be an example of a foreseeable crime. When a foreseeable crime occurs due to negligent security, the victims and their families may have adequate grounds to file a civil lawsuit. Victims should speak with an experienced violent crime attorney about their legal options."
