A mass shooting at the 7 Elements Restaurant Bar and Lounge located at 1100 Washington Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19147, left eight people wounded early Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 3:50 a.m., following a physical altercation on an exterior balcony, according to ABC 7.
The wounded include two 25-year-old women, a 27-year-old woman, a 28-year-old man, a 30-year-old man, a 42-year-old man, and two 43-year-old men. All are currently hospitalized and reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the gunfire. Inspector D.F. Pace commented, "This business should not be open that late, and upon arrival it was shut, and we had to ensure there were no other victims inside."
The number of shooters remains unknown. Officers recovered multiple shell casings from the second-floor bar, the stairway leading to the street, and the parking lot below. "We're not sure if those shell casings came from a gun that was fired above, or if the gunman or gunmen were firing even from the lower floors," Inspector Pace said.
No arrests have been made at this time. Authorities initially reported 11 people had been shot, but later revised the total to eight after discovering some victims were counted twice.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call or text Philadelphia police at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous tip online.
Victims of bar shootings and their families often face overwhelming challenges in the aftermath of violence. In this interview, an experienced sexual abuse lawyer explains the legal steps available to those injured or bereaved by such incidents, outlining how survivors can seek accountability and support through the justice system.
Darla Medina (Editor): After incidents like the shooting at 7 Elements Bar, what legal options do victims and their families typically have?
Guy D’Andrea (Attorney): Victims can often seek compensation through civil lawsuits. This may include claims against the shooter, if identified, but also potentially against the business if it’s found that security measures were lacking or if the establishment violated regulations, such as operating past permitted hours.
Medina: What challenges do victims face when bringing these types of cases?
D’Andrea: Proving negligence is a key challenge. Victims must show that the bar failed to provide adequate security or ignored safety protocols. Gathering evidence—like surveillance footage, witness statements, and police reports—is vital. If the bar was operating outside legal hours, that could strengthen the case.
Medina: Are there any immediate steps victims should take after such an event?
D’Andrea: Absolutely. Seek medical attention first, then document injuries and keep records of all related expenses. Contacting an attorney early on can help ensure evidence is preserved and rights are protected.
