Legal Options for Bar Shooting Victims and Their Families

Attorney contributor Brian Kent represents bar shooting victims and their families in lawsuits against a business for shootings.

“Commercial property owners of places like bars have a crucial legal duty to make sure their patrons and employees are safe from the threat of preventable violent crime. Bar owners must provide adequate security based on prior violent crime that has occurred on their property or the surrounding area”, said Mr. Kent.

“If a bar owner fails to provide adequate security and a shooting occurs on their property due to the negligent security, then the owner may be held partially liable. However, these cases can be complex. The victim’s attorney must prove that the shooting was reasonably foreseeable and that some form of property owner negligence played a role in enabling the shooting”, Mr. Kent explained.
