NY Police Officer Arrested on Charges of Child Sexual Assault

MidHudson News reported that a 23-year-old man from Cornwall, identified as John Kyle Dizon, has been arrested by State Police on charges of rape, sexual assault against a child, and sexual abuse. Authorities revealed that at the time of the incident, Dizon was employed as a law enforcement officer for the State University of New York (SUNY) Albany located at 1400 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12222. The alleged sexual contact with a child under the age of 13 took place in April 2022 in the Township of Bethlehem.

According to law enforcement officials, Dizon is no longer employed at SUNY Albany, and his arrest on June 9, 2023, led to his subsequent arraignment at the Westerlo Town Court. During the hearing, he was remanded to the Albany County Jail without bail. It was disclosed that at the time of his arrest, Dizon was actively serving as a law enforcement officer in the City of Newburgh. The Newburgh Police Department has been informed of the situation and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

The charges brought against Dizon are grave and deeply concerning. Rape, sexual assault against a child, and sexual abuse are serious crimes that can have a long-lasting impact on the victims involved. The arrest of an individual who was previously entrusted with the responsibility of upholding the law and protecting the community is particularly distressing.

Law enforcement agencies are working diligently to investigate the case further. The State Police have not released any additional information regarding the specifics of the allegations or any potential motives behind the crimes. It is crucial to ensure that justice is served, and the wellbeing of the victim is safeguarded throughout the legal process.

Justice For Victims Sexually Assaulted By a Police Officer

Attorney contributor Laurence Banville is an experienced sexual abuse lawyer who often represents child victims and their families in civil lawsuits. Laurence discussed the legal options available for victims sexually assaulted by a police officer.

"The recent revelations of child sex abuse perpetrated by a university police officer are deeply disturbing and demand immediate attention. As an experienced sex abuse attorney, I want to shed light on the liability and legal options available to victims of such heinous acts.

It is essential to recognize that universities and law enforcement agencies can be held liable for the actions of their employees, including police officers. When a university police officer engages in child sex abuse, the institution may be held accountable for its negligence in hiring, training, supervising, or retention of the officer in question. Victims have the right to seek justice and compensation for the harm they have endured.

Regarding legal options, victims of child sex abuse by a university police officer have several avenues available. They may choose to pursue a civil lawsuit against the university and the officer individually. This legal action aims to hold the responsible parties accountable for their actions and seek financial compensation for the physical, emotional, and psychological damages suffered by the victim.

It is crucial for victims to consult with an experienced sexual assault lawyer specializing in sexual abuse cases to navigate the complex legal landscape. A skilled attorney will thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the abuse, gather evidence, and build a strong case on behalf of the victim. They will work tirelessly to ensure that the victim's voice is heard and that justice is served.

In cases involving child sex abuse, it is also important to report the incident to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. The criminal justice system plays a crucial role in holding offenders accountable and ensuring public safety. By reporting the abuse, victims contribute to the prevention of future crimes and the protection of others."
