TX Authorities Investigate Possible Additional Victims After Church Worker Arrested for Child Sex Assault

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has announced that it is investigating potential additional victims connected to a child sex assault case in the Conroe area. The investigation follows the arrest of 44-year-old Abraham Molina, who now faces charges of indecency with a child by sexual contact and aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to ABC 13.

Molina had previously worked in churches within the Tomball and Magnolia areas and is said to have volunteered in Youth Ministry. Authorities believe incidents involving him could date back as far as the early 2000s, with some reports pointing to the years between 2006 and 2007.

Molina, currently held in the Montgomery County Jail, is accused of inappropriately touching an 8-year-old boy late last year. According to investigators, the incident occurred inside a home in Conroe while the child’s caregiver had briefly left the room.

As the investigation progressed, detectives reportedly uncovered several past sexual assault reports involving Molina. While no charges have been filed in those earlier cases, authorities noted that the reports described multiple juvenile male victims of similar age being abused in a consistent manner.

Before his arrest, Molina had been working as a residential real estate agent.

Detectives have not disclosed further details about the ongoing investigation. Efforts to reach Molina’s attorney for a response have not yet been successful. Similarly, officials have not clarified why charges were not filed in the earlier cases.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is urging anyone with information to come forward. Individuals are encouraged to contact the Special Victim's Unit.

TX Child Sex Abuse Attorney Discusses Legal Options for Survivors of Church Abuse

Survivors of sexual abuse by church employees often face complex emotions and questions about their legal rights. To provide clarity on the legal pathways available, Attorney Anjali Nigam, a seasoned advocate for sexual assault victims in Texas, explains the options for holding offenders and institutions accountable. In this interview, she addresses the challenges victims may encounter and how they can take steps to seek accountability and restitution.

Editor Darla Medina: Thank you for joining us. For individuals or families impacted by sexual assault involving a church employee, what legal options are available to them?

Attorney Anjali Nigam: Thank you for having me. Survivors of sexual assault have both criminal and civil legal avenues they can pursue. On the criminal side, law enforcement can investigate and, if there’s sufficient evidence, prosecutors can file charges against the perpetrator. This is meant to hold the offender accountable to the state.

Medina: And on the civil side?

Nigam: In civil cases, survivors or their families can seek damages from the individual offender or even the organization, including churches, if there’s evidence of negligence. For instance, if the church failed to conduct proper background checks, ignored warning signs, or failed to respond appropriately to past allegations, they could be held liable. This allows survivors to seek compensation for trauma, medical expenses, or other losses.

Medina: What challenges do victims face when pursuing such cases, especially if the incidents occurred years ago?

Nigam: One significant hurdle is the statute of limitations. While Texas has extended the timeline for filing civil cases in child sexual assault cases, survivors still need to act within that legal window. Another challenge is gathering evidence, particularly in cases where the abuse occurred many years ago, but skilled attorneys can work to uncover patterns of behavior or institutional failures that support the survivor’s claims.

Medina: For someone unsure about coming forward, what advice would you give?

Nigam: I would encourage them to speak with an experienced attorney who can explain their rights and guide them through the process. They’re not alone, and there are resources available to support them every step of the way. Taking that first step can often feel overwhelming, but it’s the most important one to reclaiming their voice and seeking accountability.
