Anne Arundel County Police have announced the arrest of 58-year-old William Jones on charges related to child abuse, according to WMAR. Jones, a former teacher at Elvaton Christian Academy located at 8422 Elvaton Rd, Millersville, MD 21108 as well as a pastor at Jessup Baptist Church located at 2862 Jessup Rd, Jessup, MD 20794, was taken into custody on Friday following an extensive investigation.
The case came to light on May 1, when a mother reported inappropriate sexual behavior involving her child and a former teacher. Jones, referred to by staff and students as “Mr. Bill,” taught at Elvaton Christian Academy from 2020 until March 27, 2025. Court documents reveal that police have identified five victims so far—each a student at the school.
In addition to his teaching role, Jones has ties to the organization Mission Fields International, which has yet to issue a statement. Both the school and Jessup Baptist Church have also been contacted for comment but have not responded at this time.
Jones is now facing several counts of sex abuse of a minor, second-degree assault, and other sex-related offenses. Authorities are continuing their investigation and are encouraging anyone with information about the case or the suspect to come forward.

When allegations of abuse arise in a school setting, families are often left grappling with questions about accountability and the steps they can take to protect their children. To provide clarity, Maryland-based attorney Aaron Blank, known for handling sexual abuse cases, offers his perspective on the legal options available for victims sexually abused by a Christian school teacher. From navigating criminal complaints to pursuing civil lawsuits, Blank highlights the actions families can consider to seek accountability and drive change within institutions.
Editor Darla Medina: What legal steps can families take if their child has been a victim of abuse by a teacher at a Christian academy?
Attorney Aaron Blank: Families have several options. They can file a criminal complaint, which involves working with law enforcement to ensure the perpetrator is held accountable under the law. In addition, they may pursue a civil lawsuit against the individual or even the institution, if negligence in hiring, supervision, or reporting played a role in the abuse.
Medina: What challenges might these families face in pursuing legal action?
Blank: One challenge is the emotional toll on the child and their family. These cases often require detailed testimony, which can be retraumatizing. Legally, the family may also need to present evidence showing how the institution failed to protect their child, which can be complex depending on the circumstances.
Medina: What advice would you offer to families trying to navigate this process?
Blank: The most important step is to find a qualified attorney who specializes in sexual abuse cases. They can guide families through every step of the process, from reporting the abuse to police to filing a lawsuit, all while ensuring the child’s well-being remains the priority.
Medina: Do you think these cases lead to broader institutional changes?
Blank: Absolutely. While these cases are devastating, they can often prompt schools, churches, or other organizations to implement stronger safeguards, better screening processes, and mandatory reporting policies to prevent future incidents.
