Massage Therapist Jorge Espinosa Charged with Sexual Battery

Miami massage therapist Jorge Espinosa has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting two women during massages - one at Miami Lotus Massage and another at Miami Acupuncture and Herb Center.

Espinosa was arrested Wednesday on two counts of sexual battery and one count of practicing massage without a license.

According to arrest reports, a woman told investigators that Espinosa sexually assaulted her during a massage at Miami Lotus Massage on Southwest 72nd Street on January 31, 2019.

A second woman told investigators that Espinosa sexually assaulted her during a massage at Miami Acupuncture & Herb Center on Southwest 107th Avenue on December 27, 2019.

Espinosa appeared in front of a judge on Thursday morning during bond court. The judge ordered him to stay away from the victims and his bond was set at $15,000.

Police are concerned that there could be other victims who have not yet come forward and have urged any others to contact the police immediately.

Legal Options For Victims of Massage Therapist Sexual Assault

Attorney contributor Michael Haggard is a sexual assault victims lawyer who has represented many victims of massage therapist sexual assault. We've asked Michael to share some information on the legal rights of those who have been sexually assaulted by massage therapists:

Massage therapy is a field that requires a high level of trust between employees and their clients. Massage therapists are trusted to be alone with clients who are in vulnerable positions, which can create a risk for abuse if sexual predators are hired to work as massage therapists. Unfortunately, there have been hundreds of reports of massage therapists sexually assaulting their clients.

The owners of massage therapy businesses have a legal obligation to ensure the safety of their customers. In some massage therapist sexual assault cases, the business owner was negligent in a way that allowed the assault to happen - such as failing to run background checks and hiring a massage therapist with a history of sexual misconduct. When negligence is involved, the victim may have grounds for a lawsuit against the business.
