Li allegedly was involved in another sexual assault case in New Orleans at a different massage parlor. Li also lived and worked in Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, and Dallas.
Attorney contributor Anjali Nigam, an experienced sexual assault lawyer, represents victims of sexual assault in civil lawsuits. In an interview, Anjali provided commentary on the legal rights of victims sexually abused by a masseur.
"Across the country, we have seen the numerous sexual assault cases by masseurs. There is a widespread sexual assault issue within the massage industry as the masseurs use their positions of power over the clients in vulnerable positions to abuse them. Victims of sexual abuse in a spa or massage parlor should acquire the services of an experienced sexual assault attorney to learn about their legal rights; they may have grounds for a civil lawsuit and receive."
"Massage parlor and spa owners have a legal obligation to uphold their clients' safety. Therefore, owners must do their best to ensure the masseurs are qualified and trusted and run a background check. If spa owners fail to do their due diligence, they may be considered liable due to negligence if a sexual assault occurs. An example of negligence is if a masseur has previous misconduct complaints against them, but their employer did not run a background check prior to hiring. If a victim's attorney can prove the sexual assault that occurred was the result of a spa owner's negligence, the victim and their family might have ground for a civil lawsuit."
