Pennsylvania Medical Assistant Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Two Patients

According to CBS News, a former medical assistant at Carbon Health Urgent Care, located at 1587 The Fairway, Jenkintown, PA 19046, has been arrested by Abington Township police for impersonating a licensed nurse and sexually assaulting two patients. Ramon Garcia faces charges of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, and invasion of privacy following two separate incidents at the urgent care facility.

The first reported incident occurred on March 1, 2024, when a woman visited the urgent care for a pre-employment drug test. Garcia allegedly misled her into believing she was randomly selected for observation during the test and proceeded to make inappropriate advances toward her.

Subsequently, another woman reported being inappropriately touched during an examination just nine days later. During the second incident, Garcia falsely identified himself as a nurse, conducted a pelvic exam without authorization, and engaged in further inappropriate behavior. The victims bravely reported the incidents to Abington Township police, leading to Garcia's arrest while on duty at Carbon Health Urgent Care.

Authorities suspect there may be additional victims due to Garcia's employment history at the location since July 2023 and possible work at other facilities in Montgomery Township or Dresher. Individuals with information related to this case are urged to contact Detective Jeff Anderson with the Special Victim's Unit at (267)536-1102 or janderson@abingtonpa.gov.

Carbon Health has expressed shock over the allegations and confirmed that Garcia is no longer employed by the organization. They are fully cooperating with law enforcement and emphasizing their commitment to patient safety, well-being, and maintaining a respectful environment for all individuals seeking care at their facilities.

This disturbing case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in healthcare settings and the necessity of reporting any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to authorities promptly.

Unveiling Legal Avenues for Victims of Nurse Abuse

When it comes to legal options for victims of nurse abuse and other medical misconduct, comprehending the routes to justice is of utmost importance. We recently sat down with Attorney Brian Kent, an experienced Pennsylvania lawyer specializing in cases of sexual abuse, to illuminate the options available to those affected by misconduct in healthcare settings. Join along as we explore the crucial steps victims can take in pursuing civil cases against responsible parties under the guidance of a seasoned legal advocate.

Editor Darla Medina (DM): Good afternoon, Mr. Kent. Given your extensive experience in representing survivors of abuse and assault, what options do victims abused by a nurse, like in the recent case at the Montgomery County urgent care, have in pursuing a civil case against liable parties?

Brian Kent, Esq. (BK): Thank you for having me, Darla. Victims of abuse by healthcare professionals, such as nurses or medical assistants, have the right to seek justice through civil litigation. In cases like these, victims can file civil lawsuits against the individual perpetrator, the healthcare facility where the abuse occurred, and potentially other liable parties. These lawsuits can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, emotional distress, and punitive damages.

DM: Could you elaborate on how victims can navigate the legal process and what steps they should take to protect their rights?

BK: Certainly. It's essential for victims to seek legal counsel from experienced attorneys specializing in abuse cases. A skilled attorney can guide them through the legal process, help gather evidence to support their case, and advocate for their rights in court. Victims should also document any injuries or emotional trauma resulting from the abuse and keep records of any communication related to the incident.

DM: Thank you for sharing on this important issue, Mr. Kent. Your knowledge is invaluable in helping victims navigate the complexities of seeking justice in cases of abuse by healthcare professionals.

BK: It's my pleasure, Darla. My team and I are dedicated to supporting survivors of abuse and assault in their pursuit of justice and healing.
