According to CBS News, at least seven women claim they were sexually assaulted during treatment at Twins Chiropractic and Physical Medicine located at 4482 Barranca Pkwy #130, Irvine, CA 92604.
On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, the Orange County District Attorney informed the public that 60-year-old Lincoln Esguerra Carillo was located and arrested in Virginia. Carillo worked at the chiropractic clinic for approximately four years. In May of 2021, a woman reported that Carillo sexually assaulted her during as many as seven visits between April and May that year. After learning about the allegations, an investigation allowed them to identify six more women allegedly sexually abused between January and August of 2021.
Carillo has ties to other chiropractic offices in areas including Artesia, Los Angeles, Fountain Valley, Seal Beach, Long Beach, Irvine, Orange, Upland, Cerritos, Costa Mesa, Placentia, Garden Grove, Riverside, and Herndon, Va. He is facing almost two dozen felony and misdemeanor counts of sexual penetration, sexual battery, and touching an intimate part of another person. Police believe there may be additional victims.
Attorney Jason Amala represents victims of sexual assault in the state of California. As an experienced lawyer for sexual abuse by a chiropractor, Bobby shared his insight on the legal rights of victims sexually assaulted by a chiropractor.
“Medical professionals, including chiropractors and physical therapists, are expected to carry themselves professionally and respectfully. Medical facilities are required to provide a safe environment for patients to get the medical care they need. This may require doing background checks on all medical professionals and staff members. Sadly, some chiropractors take advantage of their vulnerable patients by abusing their positions of power and trust. The justice system ensures that these medical professionals are held accountable for their actions.”
“Too many times, sexual assault in a medical facility is the result of safety negligence on behalf of the facility. If the facility failed to prevent sexual abuse from taking place, it could be held liable. If previous misconduct complaints were filed against a chiropractor but ignored, the facility could be deemed negligent for allowing the abuse to continue. In negligence cases, sexual assault victims could have grounds to file a lawsuit and may even be entitled to compensation for their abuse.”
