Mall Shooting Leaves Three Severely Wounded

ABC 27 has reported that multiple victims were shot at The Shops at Iverson located at 3737 Branch Ave, Hillcrest Heights, MD 20748.

Police responded to the shooting at approximately 12:45 p.m. near the mall entrance. Investigators determined that an argument between two groups led to the shooter pulling out a gun and shooting the three victims. Two women sustained serious injuries while the man remains in critical condition. The two suspects fled the scene before the police arrived.

Filing Lawsuits For Mall Shooting Victims

Attorney contributor Aaron Blank helps shooting victims receive the financial compensation they deserve in civil lawsuits. Aaron recently discussed when victims could file a lawsuit after being shot at a mall.

"The law requires commercial property owners, including shopping malls, to maintain adequate security. Patrolling security guards, well-lit parking areas, and video cameras throughout the property are common examples of preventative security. However, when a mall owner fails to maintain sufficient security, violent crimes such as shootings might take place, resulting in injuries or even death. If victims of mall shootings can show that negligent security was a factor, they may be able to pursue a lawsuit against the negligent mall owner."

"In addition to inadequate security, the victim's attorney must prove the crime was reasonably foreseeable. If the area had a prior history of crime, yet the owner did not improve security measures, crimes could be deemed foreseeable. Mall shooting victims can fully explore their available legal options for compensation by consulting with an experienced gunshot victim attorney. Victims may be entitled to a monetary settlement that can be used to cover medical expenses and other related damages."
