Our attorney contributor Kevin Biniazan is an experienced violent crime victim lawyer who represents bar shooting and stabbing victims in civil lawsuits. Kevin has recently offered his thoughts on the legal options available for victims of violent crimes to pursue a lawsuit.
"Security must be prioritized at bars, nightclubs, and all other businesses where violent crimes often occur. Bar patrons and their staff should be provided basic safety from preventable dangers, including foreseeable violent crimes such as shootings and stabbings. Unfortunately, fights, shootings, and stabbings happen regularly at bars across the country. This is why it is critical for the bar owners to implement safety precautions such as security cameras, hired guards, and sufficiently lit parking lots."
"If a bar shooting or stabbing occurs and people are injured or worse killed, the victims should be informed on their legal options for recourse. Victims should inquire if the bar lacked in providing safety measures to reduce the risk of injuries. Violent crimes often occur due to property owner negligence, such as failing to improve security standards after an uptick in local violence. In cases of safety negligence, bar shooting victims and their families could have grounds to file a civil lawsuit. As always, it is highly suggested that victims and their families explore their legal options with an experienced violent crime victim lawyer."
