Justice For Victims of Sexual Assault at Truck Stops

Attorney contributor Guy D'Andrea provides legal aid to victims of sexual assault. As an experienced sexual assault lawyer, Brian discussed the legal options available to victims sexually assaulted at truck stops and rest areas.

"Predators often target these locations due to their remote locations. Truck stops provide an inconspicuous environment with little or no attention from others. Victims are often unfamiliar with their surroundings and maybe traveling alone. This can cause many victims sexually assaulted at truck stops to feel helpless."

"These reasons are why truck stops have a legal obligation to reduce the risks of sexual assault by taking preventative measures. This can include installing security cameras within the property, having sufficient lighting, and training their employees to identify and report situations. If a location sees an uptick in criminal activity, including sexual assault, it would be their responsibility to increase their security for the safety of their customers and staff. If they fail to provide ample security, they could be held liable in a lawsuit."

"Victims sexually assaulted at truck stops and rest areas should know they have a legal right to seek justice. By filing a criminal report, the perpetrators can face charges and sentencing. By filing a civil lawsuit, victims can often receive financial compensation. An experienced sexual assault lawyer can help victims determine the best legal actions based on their case."
