Motorcyclist Hospitalized After Accident With Suspected Drunk Driver

Last Update: 7/13/2020

A motorcycle rider was sent to the hospital after a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and struck him in northwest Fresno on Friday, August 10. 33-year-old Guadalupe Verdugo of Fresno was allegedly driving drunk near the intersection of Herndon and Hayes Avenues in a Honda Fit at around 7:35 p.m. when he struck a 47-year-old man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling north on Hayes Avenue.

The motorcycle was destroyed in the accident. The unnamed motorcyclist suffered a separated shoulder and multiple broken bones, but his injuries were considered non-life-threatening.

Verdugo was not injured – however, officers brought him to Community Regional Medical Center for a blood draw. He was eventually booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of DUI.

Financial Compensation For Drunk Driving Victims in California

Attorney and regular legal contributor Jason Amala, who has experience in cases of victims hit by drunk drivers, kindly offered to share some information on legal recourse for victims of drunk drivers while I was researching this news article.

“Driving drunk is a reckless decision that frequently has disastrous consequences, both for the drunk driver and the innocent victims they injure or kill while on the road. It should go without saying, but victims of drunk driving accidents deserve justice. The criminal justice system handles part of this justice by prosecuting offenders, but the civil court system helps victims directly through financial compensation,” Jason Amala explained.
