According to the Escondido Police Department, a female victim filed a report on Saturday, alleging that 40-year-old anaesthesiologist Dr. Leng Thai Ky sexually assaulted her. Detective investigated and determined they had probable cause to arrest Ky on Monday.
Ky has been practicing medicine for over 8 years. He is associated with several medical facilities in the San Diego area, including Sharp Community Medical Group, Palomar Hospital, Graybill Medical Group, North County Pain Institute, and the Desert Pain Clinic in Rancho Mirage.
The police report did not specify where the alleged sexual assault is believed to have taken place.
Attorney and a regular contributor to Legal Herald, Jason Amala represents sexual assault victims and their families in civil lawsuits. He has provided some information relevant to filing a lawsuit against a doctor for sexual assault.
“Doctors are some of the most highly trusted professionals in our communities, both on a local as well as a national scale. We all place our trust in medical professionals and expect them to provide us with high-quality medical care while also treating us with respect; anything short of this is simply poor healthcare, in my opinion. And while most doctors are trustworthy, there have also been thousands of reports of doctors sexually assaulting their patients throughout the country.”
Bobby added, “Victims of sexual assault at the hands of medical doctors have legal rights. Reporting these predators to law enforcement is crucial so that they can be held criminally responsible, as well as to prevent others from becoming victims. Similarly, victims often also have grounds to file a lawsuit against the doctor who sexually assaulted them. In some cases, medical facilities can also be sued for sexual assaults that occurred on their properties.”
