Texas Chiropractor Facing Multiple Sexual Assault Charges

A chiropractor based in Denton has been indicted on five counts of sexual assault involving two of his patients. Hector Reyes III, 39, who operates MSK ProHealth Centers, located at 2556 Lillian Miller Pkwy Suite 110, Denton, TX 76210, faces serious allegations following incidents reported in 2023

In June 2023, a woman reported to Denton police that Reyes sexually assaulted her during a treatment session at his clinic, according to Denton Record-Chronicle. Shortly thereafter, a second woman also came forward with claims of sexual assault by Reyes during her appointment.

Grand Jury Indicts Reyes After Police Inquiry

After a thorough investigation by the Denton Police Department, the findings were presented to a Denton County grand jury, which resulted in the indictment of Reyes. Four of the sexual assault charges stem from the first woman's report, indicating multiple acts during the alleged assault.

Arrest and Current Status of Local Chiropractor

Reyes was arrested without incident at his workplace on Thursday by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently held in the Denton County Jail, with bail set at $115,000.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Support Information

The investigation remains active, and the Denton Police Department encourages anyone with further information regarding Reyes or unreported incidents to contact Detective David Acrey at 940-349-7993. Additionally, individuals affected by sexual assault or domestic violence can reach out to Denton County Friends of the Family at their 24-hour crisis line, available by phone or text at 940-382-7273.

Previous Conviction Raises Concerns

Court records indicate that Reyes has a history of legal troubles, having previously pleaded guilty to second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2005. He initially received a six-year adjudicated sentence but was later sentenced to three years in prison following a court motion to adjudicate.

Legal Rights of Victims Sexually Assaulted by a Chiropractor

In the wake of serious allegations against Denton chiropractor Hector Reyes III, many may wonder about the legal options available to victims of sexual assault in similar situations. To provide clarity, we spoke with Anjali Nigam, an experienced sexual abuse lawyer in Texas. She discusses the rights of victims sexually abused by a chiropractor, the steps to take after an incident, and how to hold negligent parties accountable.

Editor Darla Medina: Thank you for joining us, Anjali. Can you explain what legal rights victims of sexual assault by a chiropractor have?

Attorney Anjali Nigam: Absolutely, Darla. Victims have the right to report the assault to law enforcement and can seek criminal charges against the perpetrator. They also have the option to file a civil lawsuit for damages, which can include compensation for medical expenses, emotional distress, and lost wages.

Medina: What steps should a victim take immediately after the incident?

Nigam: It’s important to seek medical attention right away, not only for physical health but also to collect evidence. Victims should document everything related to the incident, including dates, times, and any witnesses. Reporting the assault to the police is also vital.

Medina: How can victims hold negligent parties accountable?

Nigam: Victims can pursue legal action against the chiropractor and potentially the clinic if negligence can be proven. This includes showing that proper protocols were not followed, or that the clinic failed to address previous complaints about the practitioner.

Medina: What advice do you have for those who may be hesitant to come forward?

Nigam: I understand that coming forward can be incredibly difficult. It's important to remember that victims are not alone; there are resources and support networks available. Consulting with a legal professional can help clarify options and provide guidance throughout the process.

Medina: Thank you, Anjali, for sharing your knowledge on this important topic.
