Passenger Injured, Teen Suspected Drunk Driver Charged with DUI After Crash

Legal Analysis: In the second part of this article, attorney Dan Lipman will discuss your legal options after getting hit by a drunk driver.

A passenger was injured after a suspected teen drunk driver crashed into a parked vehicle and a tree in Colorado Springs last night.

Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to reports of a crash in the 900 block of North Cedar Street at approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday. Responding officers found an unrestrained passenger with serious injuries.

Police then determined that the 17-year-old driver was under the influence of alcohol. He has been charged with DUI and vehicular assault.

An investigation determined that a white Jeep Grand Jerokee was driving southwest on Palmer Park Boulevard and turned southbound on to North Cedar Street. The driver reportedly took the turn wide and crashed into a parked vehicle and large tree.

The passenger was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Financial Compensation For Colorado Drunk Driving Crash Victims

Attorney contributor Dan Lipman represents people who have been injured by drunk drivers and helps them recover the financial compensation they deserve. Dan has some info to share on the legal rights of people injured by drunk drivers in Colorado:

If you've recently been injured by a drunk driver, you may be struggling with financial and personal difficulties, like expensive medical bills and lost wages. Fortunately, people who have been injured by drunk drivers can often find financial compensation through the legal system.

A personal injury lawsuit can be filed against a drunk driver, but this is not always the only option. In some cases, alcohol vendors and social hosts can also be held liable for providing alcohol to someone who went on to injure others in a drunk driving crash. These are called dram shop lawsuits.

In Colorado, a dram shop lawsuit can be filed against an alcohol vendor if the vendor provided alcohol to someone who was visibly intoxicated or under 21 years of age and that person injured others in an alcohol-related incident.
