Can Families of Fatal Shooting Victims File Lawsuits?

Attorney contributor Laurence Banville is a gun crimes injury lawyer who represents shooting victims and their families in civil lawsuits. Laurence recently shared some information for families of victims fatally shot and property owners' liability for shootings on their properties.

"Fast food restaurant owners have a legal duty to prioritize the safety of their customers and staff. Safeguards against preventable violent crime, such as shootings, are part of this legal responsibility. This might include adequate lighting, security cameras, and even protected transaction windows."

"If someone is shot and killed on their property, it's crucial both to find the suspect but also to analyze the shooting to see if it could have been prevented by better security. Too many shootings could have been prevented if not for property owners neglecting their property safety. If crime in the area has increased, the fast-food restaurant owner would be responsible for increasing its security. Failing to do this could cause them to be held accountable for preventable injuries on their property."

"In cases where a shooting may have occurred due to negligence by the fast-food restaurant owner, the victims and their families may have grounds for a lawsuit against the owner. Families of victims fatally shot can pursue a lawsuit if negligence can be proven by an experienced gun grimes injury lawyer. Financial compensation may even be awarded."
