Football Coach, PE Teacher at Woodburn High Arrested on Sex Abuse Charges
The football coach and gym teacher at Woodburn High School in Oregon has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a student. 38-year-old Nicholas Federico was arrested on Monday, October 28 on charges of second-degree sex abuse, online sexual corruption of a child, and official misconduct.
In July of this year, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Woodburn Police Department received a tip regarding an Instagram video that allegedly shows Federico engaged in an “intimate act,” said investigators.
Detectives began investigating after receiving this tip and reportedly found evidence that Federico has been communicating with at least one student using the social media app Snapchat. These social media interactions allegedly led to an inappropriate relationship with that student.
Federico is Woodburn High School’s head football coach and physical education teacher and has been with the Woodburn School District since 2011. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation.
Police have asked any possible victims or anyone else with information related to this case to call the tip line at 503-540-8079.

Justice For Victims of Sexual Abuse by Teachers
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com helps school sex abuse victims and their families find justice through the civil court system. Brian has offered to share a bit of his knowledge on the legal options available to these victims and their families:
Sexual predators often seek out employment in workplaces where they’ll have frequent access to children, which means our schools are especially vulnerable to these predators. Principals and superintendents must make sure that adequate safeguards are in place for protecting their students from sexual abuse. When an employee is accused of sexually abusing students, it’s important to determine if the school did everything they could to prevent the abuse.
Many incidents of sexual abuse involving teachers and students are preventable and only occur due to school negligence, such as inadequate school policies for preventing sexual abuse. When negligence is involved, the perpetrator must be punished and the school can also be held liable for enabling the abuse.
If you or your child is a survivor of sexual abuse by a school employee, our experienced sex abuse victims attorneys are prepared to help you explore your legal options, including a possible lawsuit against the school. You can learn more about your legal rights in a free consultation.
