Attorney contributor Brian Kent is an experienced sex abuse victim lawyer who is available to represent victims of nursing home abuse in civil lawsuits. We’ve asked Brian to share some information on the legal rights of these victims and their families:

Countless Americans trust nursing homes to take care of their elderly loved ones once it become difficult for them to take care of themselves. The safety and wellbeing of these residents is not just the top priority for nursing home owners, but the only priority. But sadly, there have been many cases of nursing home abuse and neglect in nursing homes throughout the United States.

Nursing home owners must do everything they can to make sure their residents are safe from sexual predators. When a staff member is charged with sexually abusing a resident, it’s important to investigate both the staff member and the facility itself. Some of these crimes may not have happened if not for negligence by the facility.

For example, a nursing home owner might be considered negligent for hiring an employee without first running a background check that may have shown a history of sexual misconduct.
