Ex-Eisenhower High School Teacher Accused of Sexual Abuse
A man who spent several years as a band director at Eisenhower High School in Utica has been arrested on child sex abuse charges.
42-year-old Christopher Traskal was arrested on December 12, 2019. He has been charged with one count of sexual abusive activity and one count of using a computer to commit a crime.
Prosecutors have accused Traskal of sending emails to a student that “escalated to an inappropriate and sexual nature” over the course of several months.
Traskal is also accused of befriending a middle school student and sexually abusing her after she became a high school student. In that case, he has been charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
His bail was set at $50,000 and he is due to appear in court again on December 27. He also resigned from his position in October.

Justice for School Sex Abuse Victims and Their Families
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com specializes in helping sex abuse victims and their families find justice. We’ve asked Brian to add some of his thoughts concerning the legal rights of teacher sex abuse victims and their families:
Teachers are some of the most highly trusted members of their communities, as most parents rely on them to help their children develop into responsible adults. But sadly, not all teachers are trustworthy people. There have been widespread reports of teachers sexually abusing students throughout the country.
If you or a loved one has been sexually abused by a teacher or another school staff member, it’s important to be aware of your legal rights. Abusive teachers may face criminal penalties when reported to law enforcement, but the legal options for victims and families don’t always end here. In some cases, victims and families may also have grounds for a lawsuit against the school district for failing to protect students due to negligence.
For example, a school could be considered negligent for failing to investigate or report previous allegations of sexual misconduct involving a teacher who has been charged with sexually abusing a student.
