Unlicensed Massage Therapist Charged with Sexually Assaulting a Customer in Stratford
An unlicensed massage therapist from New York has been charged with sexually assaulting a customer at Angel’s Art Nails & Spa in Stratford, Connecticut. 31-year-old Peng Gao of Flushing, NY has been charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and failure to have a massage license.
A 41-year-old Connecticut woman told police that she was sexually assaulted when she visited the spa for a massage and to have her nails done. She told investigators that she went into the massage room, undressed, and covered herself with a towel before laying face down on the massage table.
According to the police, Gao then entered the room and the woman told him she only wanted a back massage. However, police say that Goa continued to touch her beyond her request. Eventually, the woman got off the table and told the spa’s manager about Gao’s alleged sexual assault.
Police questioned Gao, who denied the sexual assault but admitted to not having a massage license.

What Are the Legal Rights of Massage Therapist Sexual Assault Victims?
Attorney contributor and former sex crimes prosecutor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com has represented numerous victims of massage therapist sexual assault in civil lawsuits. We’ve asked Brian for his opinion on the legal rights of those who have been sexually assaulted by massage therapists:
The massage therapy industry has been in the midst of a nationwide sexual assault scandal over the past few years, with hundreds of customers reporting being sexually assaulted by massage therapists. The owner of massage businesses must stay aware of the fact that their field is targeted by sexual predators and must do everything they can to protect their customers from these predators.
In far too many cases, these sexual assaults were preventable and only occurred due to negligence by the business where they occurred. In some cases, massage therapists for nationwide chains like Massage Envy have even been permitted to transfer to other locations, where they have the opportunity to sexually assault additional victims.
People who have been sexually assaulted by massage therapists due to negligence may have grounds for a lawsuit against the business where the assault occurred. These lawsuits help demand accountability from these negligent third parties that have failed in their legal duty to protect their customers.
