Attorney Commentary: In the second part of this story, doctor sexual assault lawyer Brian Kent will discuss the legal rights of patients sexually assaulted by doctors.
A psychiatrist in State College, PA has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting one of his patients at his office.
53-year-old Dr. Ashok has been charged with sexual assault and two counts of indecent. He is accused of inappropriately touching the patient and removing the patient’s clothing.
The victim told police that he did not consent to the physical contact. He also gave police missed calls and text messages that Bharucha later sent him, inviting the victim to Bharucha’s hotel room.
Attorney contributor Brian Kent is a former sex crimes prosecutor who now represents sexual assault victims in civil lawsuits. Brian has represented several doctor sexual assault victims and has offered to share some of his thoughts on the legal rights of these victims:
Doctors are trusted to take care of their patients and conduct themselves professionally, and most do so. However, there have also been far too many cases of predatory doctors exploiting this trust and sexually assaulting their patients.
These victims have legal rights through criminal charges and in some cases, civil lawsuits against doctors and negligent medical facilities.
