Multiple Patients Accuse St. George Chiropractor Brent Noorda of Sex Abuse
St. George chiropractor Dr. Brent Noorda was arrested last Wednesday, August 21 on 20 counts of forcible sexual abuse after multiple patients came forward to accuse him of touching them inappropriately under the guise of medical treatment. Noorda practiced at Balanced Health Care, located at 368 East Riverside Drive Unit #8.
Patients reported the alleged abuse to both the Utah Department of Professional Licensing (DOPL) and the St. George Police Department. The SGPD received the first complaints on July 30, 2019.
Detectives say that there are at least four victims who have been identified. The allegations include inappropriate touching both over and under the clothing of the victims. Investigators interviewed four women over a period of several weeks.
At least one of the victims is an employee of Norda who was also one of his clients. According to a probable cause statement, this woman told police that the inappropriate touching and comments made her uncomfortable, but that she thought Noorda “was supposed to be someone she could trust,” because he was both her boss and a doctor.
Two of the women told investigators that they continued seeing Noorda because he was the only doctor in the region that practices the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA) method. These women said that after seeing another doctor, they realized that Noorda’s inappropriate touching was not part of NUCCA standards.
Several of Noorda’s colleagues working in the same facility told detectives that Noorda would make “constant comments on his patient’s breasts as well as his employees breasts” and that he had mentioned wanting to conduct a vaginal exam on one patient.
Noorda faces 20 felony counts of forcible sex abuse and was booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility last Wednesday. Additionally, the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing announced via press release that they had issued a Non-Disciplinary Limitation Stipulation and Order against Noorda, which means that he “shall not practice as a chiropractic physician in any way or manner” during the police investigation.

Legal Recourse For Victims of Sexual Abuse by Chiropractors & Other Medical Professionals
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com specializes in representing victims of sexual abuse in civil lawsuits and has helped several victims file lawsuits for sexual abuse by medical professionals. Here is Brian with some information on the legal rights of those who have been sexually abused by chiropractors and other medical professionals:
We all expect that our doctors and other medical professionals are people we can trust. While most of these professionals are indeed trustworthy, the tragic reality is that there are also many sexual predators in the medical field. When a medical professional violates the trust of their patients by committing a heinous crime of sexual abuse, it’s important that the victims are aware of their legal rights.
The police and criminal justice system will handle the investigation and prosecution of a doctor who sexually assaults their patients, but the legal rights of these patients don’t always end here. In many cases, these victims may have grounds for a lawsuit against the doctor and potentially the facility where the abuse occurred.
Medical facilities can be held liable for sexual abuse committed by employees if the facility was negligent in a way that enabled the abuse. For example, a facility could be sued by the victims if previous complaints of sexual misconduct involving the accused had gone ignored.
Each doctor sex abuse case is unique and the legal options available to victims depend on the circumstances of the case. If you or a loved one is a survivor of sex abuse by a doctor or another medical professional, you can learn more about your legal rights by speaking with an experienced sex abuse victims attorney.
