Former Springdale High School Teacher Accused of Sexually Abusing a Student

A former teacher at Springdale High School has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student. 57-year-old Randall Scott Peckham has been charged with first-degree sexual assault, along with pandering or possessing visual or print medium depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

Springdale Police were contacted in October by a female Springdale High School student. The student reported possible inappropriate social media interactions with a teacher. This led to a criminal investigation and Peckham was identified as that teacher.

Peckham resigned after these allegations were made on October 17.

Peckham was arrested at his home on Wednesday, December 4. He is being held at the Washington County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Justice For Teacher Sex Abuse Victims and Their Families

Attorney contributor Brian Kent is a former sex crimes prosecutor and founding partner of AbuseGuardian.com – a national alliance of sex abuse victims lawyers. Brian has offered to weigh in with some of his thoughts on the legal rights of teacher sex abuse victims and their families:

At Abuse Guardian, our attorneys are regularly working on cases involving sexual predators in positions of trust – including teachers who have sexually abused their students. We regularly see cases of teacher sex abuse throughout the country. Sadly, sexual predators are often found working in schools and other workplaces that involve working with children.

School officials must do all in their power to protect their students from sexual predators. Thorough background checks and strong safety precautions can help reduce the risk of abuse. In some cases, school negligence is partially to blame for a failure to prevent sexual abuse by a teacher. In cases of negligence, the victims and their families may have the right to file a lawsuit.

If you or your child is a victim of sexual abuse by a teacher, your family has legal options for finding answers, support, and justice. Contact one of our experienced sex abuse victims lawyers to learn more about your legal options in a free consultation.
