Legal Options for Victims of Sexual Assault by Massage Therapists
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com is a former sex crimes prosecutor who now represents sexual assault victims in civil lawsuits. Brian and his team of attorneys have represented several victims of massage therapist sexual assault. Here are a few thoughts from Brian on the legal rights of these victims:
Sexual assault is a crisis plaguing the massage therapy industry. Throughout the country, hundreds of massage therapy clients have reported being sexually assaulted by massage therapists. The owners of massage therapy businesses have an obligation to be aware of this growing problem and to do everything they can to protect their clients from becoming victims.
In many cases of massage therapist sexual assault, the business is partially liable for failing to prevent the assault because of negligence. For example, a massage therapy business could be considered negligent for ignoring previous complaints of inappropriate behavior involving a massage therapist. In cases of negligence, massage therapist sexual assault victims may have grounds for a lawsuit.
