Salt Lake City Massage Therapist Accused of Sexually Abusing Clients

A massage therapist in Salt Lake County, Utah has been charged with sexually abusing two women at a Massage Envy location.

The two women have accused 64-year-old Fredy Giron of inappropriately touching them during massages at a Massage Envy in Salt Lake County. Charging documents say that both of these alleged incidents happened in September of 2019.

The first alleged victim told police that Giron sexually assaulted her during a massage on September 11. He is accused of placing his hand under the “draping” and partly under the woman’s underwear.

The second woman told police that on September 22, Giron penetrated her private parts with his fingers during a massage.

Court documents do not name the specific Massage Envy location where Giron was working at the time of the alleged abuse.

Giron has been charged with object rape, forcible sexual abuse, and sexual battery. A warrant was issued for his arrest in late October, with bail set at $500,000.

What Are My Legal Options as a Victim of Massage Therapist Sexual Assault?

Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com is a former sex crimes prosecutor and current sexual assault victims lawyer who has represented several clients in sexual assault lawsuits against Massage Envy. Here are some thoughts from Brian on the legal rights of those who have been sexually assaulted by massage therapists:

The massage therapy industry as a whole, and nationwide chain Massage Envy, in particular, are in the midst of a sexual assault crisis. Nearly 200 people have accused massage therapists of sexually assaulting them during appointments at various Massage Envy locations throughout the country.

Massage therapy is a sensitive field in which trust between therapists and clients is crucial. Massage therapists are alone with clients who are in vulnerable positions, so if sexual predators are working in these positions, there is a high risk of abuse.

In many sexual assault cases, massage therapy companies are partially responsible for failing to prevent the assault due to negligence. For example, a company could be deemed negligent if they had ignored or concealed previous allegations of sexual misconduct concerning a massage therapist. In cases of negligence, victims of massage therapist sexual assault may have grounds for a lawsuit.

If you or a loved one is a victim of sexual assault by a massage therapist, our experienced sexual assault victims attorneys are prepared to help you fight for the answers, support, and justice you deserve for the trauma you’ve suffered.
