Legal Recourse For Victims of Bar Shootings

Attorney contributor Brian Kent crimevictim.Attorney represents victims of violent crime in civil lawsuits. We’ve asked him to share some of his legal advice on the options available to bar shooting victims and their families.

Business and other property owners are legally required to guarantee the safety of their patrons and employees. They must be able to protect all patrons from preventable dangers and to do this they must provide adequate security on the premises. This may include things like video surveillance, sufficient parking lot lighting, and security guards. If a bar owner fails to provide proper security measures on site and someone is injured in a shooting due to their negligence, then the victim may have a valid lawsuit against the owner.

Additionally. the victim’s attorney must also be able to prove that the violent crime committed was reasonably foreseeable. This means that the bar owner was aware of the area’s violent history, but did nothing to improve security. Ultimately, however, inadequate security circumstances must accompany a reasonably foreseeable crime in order for a property owner to be considered liable.

If you or a loved one has fallen victim to a bar shooting, you can contact an experienced attorney today to learn more about the legal options available to you.
