Police Investigate Sexual Abuse Allegations at Baptist Health Richmond

Friends of the alleged victim contacted the Kentucky State Police in October with concerns that their friend had been sexually abused at the hospital. This led to an investigation and the victim agreed to a sexual assault examination and DNA testing of her clothing.

Buckmaster appeared in court on Wednesday, March 22 to face the charges. He pleaded not guilty and is now free after posting a $10,000 cash bond.

According to court records, Buckmaster is married and is also a volunteer firefighter.

Legal Options As a Survivor of Sexual Abuse by a Medical Professional

At Abuse Guardian, our sex abuse victims lawyers have backgrounds as former sex crimes prosecutors. Today, we help survivors take legal action against sexual predators and third parties who fail to stop them. Sadly, we have seen many cases involving medical professionals sexually abusing their patients. Here are some thoughts on the legal options available to these survivors:

Medical professionals have a duty to provide their patients with the best possible care and to treat them with the respect they deserve. These professionals are in positions of trust and most of them are indeed trustworthy people. But unfortunately, there have been cases of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals sexually assaulting their patients in all 50 states. The victims of these heinous crimes deserve answers and support. The perpetrators deserve to be held accountable. And in some cases, the facility where the assault occurred should also be held liable for failing to prevent the crime.

Survivors of sexual assault by medical professionals often have grounds for a lawsuit against the professional who assaulted them, the facility, or both parties. Healthcare facilities can be held liable if their negligence played a role in the assault, such as failing to investigate complaints of sexual misconduct involving an employee.

Each case is unique and establishing negligence will require legal guidance. You can learn more about your legal options by contacting an experienced sex abuse survivors lawyer for a free consultation.
