Ex-Redmond Gymnastics Academy Coach Charged with Several Sex Crimes
Lawyer Comments: In the second section of this article, sex abuse attorney Brian Kent will discuss the legal rights of victims of sexual abuse in gymnastics and other youth sports.
A former Redmond Gymnastics Academy coach was arrested this week for allegedly sexually abusing an underage student at the academy.
25-year-old Kellee Johnson has been charged with several sex crimes, including luring a minor for sexual contact, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, three counts of second-degree sexual abuse and one count of third-degree sexual abuse.
Johnson had been under investigation for five months. He was not the victim’s primary coach, but went to competitions where the victim participated.
Charging documents list two alleged victims – one between December 1, 2019 and January 5, 2020, and a second on or about July 4, 2017.
According to the police, the academy first reported the allegations to the police.
Police have asked anyone with information regarding Johnson and inappropriate interactions he may have had with minors to call 541-693-6911.

Lawsuits For Gymnastics Sex Abuse Victims
Attorney contributor Brian Kent is an experienced sex abuse victims lawyer who has represented youth sports sex abuse victims in civil lawsuits. Brian has some thoughts to share regarding the legal rights of gymnastics sex abuse victims and their families:
The gymnastics industry has been in the midst of a sex abuse scandal, with high-profile cases like that of US Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar as well as incidents of abuse reported in smaller gymnastics communities throughout the country.
In some of these cases, the abuse may not have happened if not for organizational negligence. For example, a gymnastics organization might be considered negligent for ignoring past reports of inappropriate behavior by a coach who was later arrested on sex abuse charges.
In cases involving negligence, gymnastics sex abuse victims may have grounds for a lawsuit against the organization or business where the abuse occurred.
