Racine Massage Therapist Convicted of Sexually Assaulting Multiple Clients
A Mount Pleasant massage therapist who pleaded guilty to reduced charges after being accused of sexually assaulting multiple clients has surrendered his license. On June 5, Huaying Sun’s permanent surrender of his license was accepted by the Wisconsin Massage Therapy and Bodywork Therapy Affiliated Credentialing Board. Sun is now ineligible to submit any future application or attempts at license renewal.
Accusations Against Huaying Sun
At least four women have come forward to file criminal complaints against Sun for alleged sexual assaults during massage appointments.
In 2011, a woman told Racine Police that Sun sexually assaulted her during a massage appointment at a business in the Regency Mall. She said that Sun asked her to undress and toucher her breasts and genitalia.
In 2014, two more women accused Sun of similar transgressions. On April 17 of that year, a woman told police that she was also assaulted at the same Regency Mall massage business. On May 27 of that year, a third woman came forward and accused Sun of touching her inappropriately and placing his genitals near her hand during a massage session.
On July 13, 2017, a fourth woman contacted Mount Pleasant police after seeing news articles about Sun’s previous charges. She told the authorities that she was sexually assaulted by Sun during a massage session at Body Oasis Massage Therapy in Mount Pleasant, which Sun owned.
Legal Rights of Victims of Massage Therapist Sexual Assault
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of AbuseGuardian.com specializes in representing the survivors of sexual assault. We’ve asked him to add his two cents on how the legal system can help survivors:
Sexual assault by massage therapists has become a nationwide problem, with new incidents making headlines virtually every week. These therapists are trusted to conduct themselves professionally, but unfortunately, some individuals in this industry take advantage of vulnerable customers and sexually assault them. When this happens, it’s important to make sure the perpetrator is held criminally responsible. Additionally, survivors of these crimes should be aware that the civil court system can help as well.
Victims of sexual assault by massage therapists often have grounds for lawsuits against both the perpetrator of the crime and their employer. Filing a lawsuit helps demand accountability from companies who fail to prevent sexual assault or mishandle complaints about their employees.
