Authorities in Broward County have taken Ronison Exavier, a 24-year-old assistant athletic coach at Highlands Christian Academy located at 501 NE 48th St, Pompano Beach, FL 33064, into custody following allegations of inappropriate behavior involving two students.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO) reported that the investigation began on Monday, sparked by a complaint from the family of one of the victims, according to CBS12. According to officials, Exavier allegedly summoned a student to his office on October 15, where he engaged in inappropriate physical contact.
While conducting their inquiry, detectives uncovered claims from a second victim, who also alleged that Exavier committed similar acts. Based on these accounts, law enforcement arrested Exavier at his home in Coral Springs shortly after.
Exavier now faces multiple felony charges, including soliciting or engaging in sexual conduct with a student, lewd and lascivious molestation, and touch or strike battery.
BSO investigators have expressed concerns that additional victims may be involved. They are urging individuals with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. This case has raised alarm within the local community, as families and school officials grapple with the gravity of the allegations.

Victims of school sexual abuse often face overwhelming challenges as they navigate the aftermath of their experiences. When the perpetrator is someone in a position of trust, such as a coach, the emotional and legal complexities can deepen. In this interview, a seasoned attorney specializing in sexual abuse cases shares their perspectives on the legal avenues available to survivors, offering a clear understanding of how victims can seek accountability and protection through the justice system.
Editor Darla Medina: In cases like this, what immediate steps should families of victims take to protect their rights and support their children?
Attorney Michael Haggard: The first priority should always be ensuring the child receives emotional and psychological support. Reporting the abuse to law enforcement, which these families have done, is a critical step. Beyond that, consulting an attorney experienced in these cases can help families understand their legal rights and options, including pursuing civil claims to hold the perpetrator and any negligent institutions accountable.
Medina: Can the school be held liable in situations like this?
Haggard: Absolutely. Schools have a legal duty to protect students from harm. If there’s evidence that the school failed to properly vet, monitor, or supervise the coach, they can be held accountable. Families can file civil lawsuits to not only seek damages but also push for systemic changes to prevent future incidents.
Medina: What advice would you give to families who suspect their child might also be a victim but haven’t come forward?
Haggard: It’s important to create a safe and supportive environment for the child to share their experience at their own pace. Families should consider consulting with a counselor or therapist who specializes in trauma. Additionally, they can reach out to law enforcement or an attorney to explore how to proceed while protecting the child’s privacy.
