3 Injured in Shooting in Parking Lot of Lucky’s Pad
Police are searching for two possible suspects in connection with a shooting that left three men injured outside of Lucky’s Pad on Friday, April 5. The department also has two leads related to those possible suspects.
Three men between ages 24 and 28 were injured in a shooting in the parking lot south of the bar, located in the 100 block of North Main Street. Officers responded to reports of shots fired outside of the bar at around 11:45 p.m. on Friday.
Police say they still think there is only one shooter, but detectives are investigating to determine if another person was involved. They also say the shooter left with other people and a vehicle believed to have been used by the shooter was found at the crime scene.
The Piqua Police Department is also investigating reports that a previous incident may have led to the shooting. Anyone with information related to this case has been encouraged to contact Piqua Police at 937-778-2027.
Are Bar Owners Liable for Shootings on Their Properties?
Attorney contributor Brian Kent of CrimeVictim.Attorney is a former prosecutor who now serves as a civil attorney, helping crime victims and their families find justice through lawsuits. Here are a few of his thoughts on bar owner liability for shootings on their properties:
Bar owners have many responsibilities, but one of the most important is making sure their customers and employees are safe. The owners of bars, nightclubs, and other establishments must meet this responsibility by having reasonable security standards in place. In some bar shooting cases, the violence may have been prevented by better security standards. When this is the case, the victims and their families may have grounds for a lawsuit.
Determining bar owner liability is a complicated process. In order to have a case for a lawsuit, the victim’s legal team must establish that the shooting was reasonably foreseeable and that it could have been prevented if it weren’t for inadequate security. For example, a shooting might be considered foreseeable if there had been a history of violence at the same bar.
Each bar shooting case is unique. If you or someone you love has recently been injured or killed in a shooting at a bar or nightclub, you can learn more about your family’s legal options by discussing your case with an experienced crime victim lawyer.
