Client Accuses Personal Trainer of Using Deception for Sexual Assault

On Friday, November 2, detectives in Omaha arrested 57-year-old personal trainer Douglas Anders for allegedly sexually assaulting a client several times over a period of seven years. The Omaha Police Department’s Sexual Assault Squad had been investigating Anders after the woman reported the sexual assaults to the squad earlier this year.

According to police, Anders used deception related to his profession as a personal trainer in order to sexually assault the woman. Anders is the owner of Metabolic Engineering and Recovery Center, near the intersection of 97th and Mockingbird Lane.

Anders has been charged with first-degree sexual assault and has released a statement denying the allegations. He has also filed a defamation case against the victim and her family. A preliminary hearing date has been set for November 26.

Legal Options For Victims of Sexual Assault in Places of Business

Brian Kent of is an attorney who fights for the rights of sexual assault survivors in civil courts and has a background as a sex crimes prosecutor. We have asked him for some thoughts on the legal options for those who have been sexually assaulted in places of business:

The #MeToo movement has inspired countless sexual assault victims to come forward, tell their stories, and seek justice. We have seen this with many nationwide cases of survivors speaking out against doctors, coaches, massage therapists, and other professionals who have used their positions of trust as a means to sexually assault their clients and customers. When an employee or business owner sexually assaults a customer, the victim has legal rights in both the criminal justice and civil court systems.

In some sexual assault cases, business owners are liable either for actually committing the assault or for failing to prevent it. For example, a business owner may be considered negligent and held liable for failing to report allegations of sexual misconduct and allowing the accused to continue working.

If you’ve been sexually assaulted as a customer at a business and are curious about your legal options, you can learn more by speaking to an experienced sexual assault survivor attorney.
