MDOT Construction Worker Hurt While Saving Another From Vehicle Collision
An MDOT contract construction worker was seriously hurt on Wednesday after a suspected drunk driver struck him along the side of westbound Interstate 96.
According to a spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Transportation, the worker saved a colleague from being struck by the vehicle. He reportedly shouted for his colleague to get out of the way. The colleague then jumped the guard rail and managed to avoid being injured by the vehicle.
The drunk driver allegedly struck the MDOT worker’s vehicle while he was standing on the rear liftgate. The injured worker, who has not been named, suffered a concussion. He was hospitalized at Providence Park with serious injuries.
The 34-year-old suspected drunk driver, who also has not been named, was arrested for driving under the influence.
An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
