Legal Options For People Hit by Drunk Drivers in Michigan

Here is attorney contributor Brian Kent with some thoughts to share with The Legal Herald on the legal options available to people who have been injured by drunk drivers in Michigan:

Michigan and several other states allow people who have been injured by drunk drivers to file lawsuits against the business who provided alcohol to the drunk driver, depending on certain conditions.

According to Michigan’s dram shop law, businesses can be held liable for providing alcohol if doing so was a foreseeable cause of the injury and the person they provided it to was under 21 or already visibly intoxicated.

People who have been injured by drunk drivers may have also have the option to file a personal injury lawsuit against the drunk driver who caused the accident. In some cases, those injured by drunk drivers may be able to sue both the driver and the bar who served them.
